As the final project for the studio, we were assigned to create an “emotional vessel”. The first thing I thought of upon hearing “emotional vessel” was my past. I thought of how grateful I was to be here, studying at my dream school in my area city. How excited my younger self would be, how proud I am of myself, and I wished I could go back and tell the high school freshman Netri to stop being so hard on herself and that she made it. This emotion has a word that only exists in French, it’s called enouement. I knew I wanted to create something that physically encapsulated my dear memories and my future goals while incorporating my passion for interior and lighting design, and exploring the audio production realm a bit. This lamp is titled “Windows to the Past” as it includes images from my childhood, my highschool years, and current images. As viewers look at the projections casted from the lamp and look into it, they feel a sense of yearning, of nostalgia yet satisfaction. In the background is a mixtape I created using segments of songs that hold memories I share with the most important people in my life as well as the most significant stages in my personal journey. This is a highly emotional and intimate piece, combining songs from my past with the whispers of my future.
